Workers or the WAL
MJMilan Jovanović [email protected] (Milan Jovanović) 1 d ago

Outbox in Postgres: concurrent workers vs reading the WAL

Milan Jovanović compared two ways to drain a transactional outbox on PostgreSQL: polling workers and a reader streaming the write-ahead log through logical replication. Both move thousands of messages per second, so the real split is latency against operational cost — a replication slot, WAL held on disk and heavier duplicate replays.

Build Buddy: a local model fixed 6 of 6 C# build errors

A developer spent MLH Global Hack Week building Build Buddy, a small .NET tool that parses dotnet build output, sends each CS#### error to a local model and asks for an explanation plus a corrected file. With Gemma 3 4B via Ollama it fixed all six single-error samples, though the author is careful to call that a starting point rather than proof.

MongoDB Reads in C#: Projection, Sorting, and Pagination

A correct filter is not enough: a MongoDB read can still return unnecessary fields, an undefined order or an unbounded amount of data. Nick Cosentino walks through typed projection, sorting with a unique tie-breaker, offset pagination and compound continuation tokens on MongoDB.Driver 3.12.0. The guide skips basic filter syntax and answers the follow-up questions instead: what comes back, in which order, and how a later request continues.

JWT access and refresh tokens in ASP.NET Core (.NET 10): rotation, revocation and the bugs to avoid

A seasoned ASP.NET Core developer shares the token flow he ships: 15-minute signed JWT access tokens, opaque refresh tokens stored only as a SHA-256 hash, rotation on every refresh, and family-wide revocation when a rotated token reappears. The post also lists the configuration mistakes he keeps fixing in other people's APIs on .NET 10 with EF Core.

Exposing ABP application services as MCP tools for AI agents

By turning your ABP application services into MCP tools, AI agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or Cursor can list orders and approve invoices in plain language. The article lays out a roughly 150-line pattern that keeps permission checks, multi-tenant data filters and audit logging exactly where they already are: a thin tool class, a /mcp endpoint and agents acting on behalf of a user via OpenIddict bearer tokens.

.NET 11 RC doubles configuration binding cost, 46 benchmarks show

A benchmark study measures 46 DI, configuration, logging, cache and EF Core operations from .NET 7.0 to 11 RC on a fixed .NET 10 runtime, and cross-checks the findings against Git history to see what the Copilot coding agent actually touched. Warm paths got faster, first calls got slower, and 11 RC carries a regression that roughly doubles reflection-based configuration binding.

Distributed tracing in .NET with OpenTelemetry: spans that explain failures

This Habr write-up walks through setting up distributed tracing with OpenTelemetry across two ASP.NET Core apps, an OpenTelemetry Collector and Jaeger. It explains when to create your own spans with Activity and ActivitySource, how W3C Trace Context propagates across services, and why a traceId in the response does not guarantee the trace reached Jaeger.

A Critter Stack release day with AI agents, CI queues and a Marten memory fix

Jeremy D. Miller keeps a running diary of a Critter Stack release day: Claude agents spread over several repositories, GitHub Actions runner queues, local test gating and a client-reported Marten memory issue. The post is a useful look at the bottlenecks that show up when agents multiply the work a single maintainer can attempt.

Azure SDK
Measure before replacing LINQ
PGDaniel Marbach (planetgeek) Daniel Marbach 2 d ago

Before replacing LINQ, read what it becomes

Daniel Marbach walks through optimizing a short LINQ predicate in the Azure Service Bus AMQP receiver and finds the real cost in the generated delegate allocation. His first change won on every input shape, while a later collection-aware rewrite helped sets and lists but slowed lazy enumerables; the lesson is measuring what the query compiles into instead of abandoning LINQ.
